History of Basketball
The first games that were very similar to that of basketball where played by a Olmec tribe found in mexico about 500 years ago. Along with the Mayan and Aztecs who also have a game similar to that of basketball, but they did not use a ball they use skulls of their enemies. But the first true basketball game was held in Springfield, Massachusetts in January 20th, 1892. A canadian Doctor named James Naismith invented the game for the YMCA to play during the winter. In the beginning Naismith wrote simple rules and then proceeded to nail two basket for hoops and then use a soccer ball to shoot. They use a soccer ball since YMCA did not have enough funds to make a new ball at the time. From Naismith rules nine have been kept and only four new rules have been applied. At the beginning basketball was a foreigner to the player since it only lasted 30 minutes and the end results were 1-0. But little by little the game popularity grew only to the point to almost be ban by YMCA since the game was becoming too rowdy for their liking. But people still played and it was how leagues where form by amateurs which led to national leagues and games being held.
